October 24

Is it a dragon or a the rippling shadow of a cat? Forget everything you know, and be a beginner again. This waking world is full of the best kind of weird. This post is on an Instagram I can't really vouch for, and I couldn't find the origin of these other videos, but they're wonderful.

Today I'm trying to get off the adult train. I rode my moto to the coffee shop, ordered some matcha and a cup o Wimp! (Thanks Otherland's for stocking us!). Now I'm writing the newsletter, and trying to keep my eyes out for the simple, stupid, perfect moments that make remind me what's really real.

I know we’re entering the season of “exclusive” sales and panicked commerce cosplay. Black Friday is revving its tiny anxious engine. Just remember, the fear that you have to get it before it's gone isn't real. That's the bullshit they're trying to get you to believe. What’s real is your dog’s dumb little face. Your friend’s laugh. The sun. The sound of coffee dripping in the morning, and the first taste you get sipping it from your favorite mug.

Breathe. Get off your phone. Look for what's beautiful today. Catch someone's eye, thank them by name. This is resistance to the chaos all around us.

FORWARD TO A FRIEND

A Gift / A book of memories:
Have you ever wanted to give someone a gift that was more than just an object, but something that helped them understand how they make people feel (hopefully good lol), well this is that gift. It's a book of fondness, handcrafted. This is a must consider for this season for the holidays.

A Cute / A sticker to help reduce food waste.
Family Mart in Japan cut food waste with an unexpectedly emotional idea: teary-eyed “help us” stickers on expiring food. Customers connected, sales rose, and waste dropped by 3,000 tons a year. Now the chain’s giving the stickers away free so any shop can join in. Cute, sad, and wildly effective. From Spoon & Tomago. One of my favorite newsletters and Japanese sites.

A Funny / Everything is probably going to be okay.
A delightful little reminder from the Transformers character Optimus Prime (renamed Optimistic Prime)

A Song / Jurassic Park theme slowed down x 1000
This is one of my favorite things to listen to when I need to focus and cool down. HIGHLY recommend. Also I'm linking to the Sound Cloud version because Spotify can take a hike! Bad for artists, bad for culture, bad all around. 💩

A Video / Cardboard adventures from a kid :
A good reminder of how to think outside the box, inside the box, with boxes, and generally how to be as smart and creative as a kid. This is an oldie, but goodie.
